Strategies For Healthy Aging And Longevity—Could Mitochondria Be The Key?

Mitochondria-diagram.png
Mitochondria are among the most important organelles in our cells, with hundreds found in most cells and many thousands in brain, muscle and liver cells. The primary function of mitochondria is to generate large quantities of energy in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the energy molecule of life. In addition, they also store calcium for cell signaling activities, generate heat, and mediate cell growth and death.

In my practice, I work with people to improve the ability of the mitochondria to produce energy and improve cellular function. In some cases mitochondria have been injured by medications and drugs, causing fatigue and connective tissue weakness leading to injuries and diminished health. In others, support of mitochondria has been instrumental in reducing the effects of chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia symptoms. In still others we focus on mitochondrial support strategies to support healthy aging, improve quality of life and reduce the risk of chronic disease.

Remove Dead Skin And Revitalize Your Face With An Organic Papaya Mask. Many exfoliants contain abrasive ingredients that scratch your skin, which may damage the skin and speed signs of aging. Instead, it’s better to use an enzymatic exfoliant. Papaya contains the natural enzyme papain, and pineapple contains the enzyme bromelain, which helps naturally exfoliate the skin to leave it smooth and soft. Greener (unripe) papayas have higher amounts of papain, so opt for these to get the best benefit. If you have sensitive skin, use ripe papayas as they are less likely to trigger an inflammatory reaction.

Our metabolism changes over time, damage to our DNA increases, and its capacity for self-repair diminishes. As we age, cellular energy production becomes less efficient, and we have fewer mitochondria. This in turn increases our risks of chronic degenerative diseases and impacts our quality of life.

Diseases associated with mitochondrial damage include Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, dementia, chronic fatigue syndrome, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and migraines.

Fortunately, nutritional therapies can help promote mitochondrial function and increase the number of mitochondria in our cells which in turn produce more ATP and increase energy efficiency.

Exercise can also help you sleep better at night. As little as 10 minutes of aerobic exercise, such as walking or cycling, can drastically improve nighttime sleep quality but please avoid strenuous workouts close to bedtime.

Mitochondrial Resuscitators—Nutrients That Support & Improve Mitochondrial Function

Trans-Resveratrol, found in grapes, red wine and other plants, is a potent antioxidant that has been shown to extend lifespans in test animals. It works in two ways; it activates enzymes important in DNA repair and increases mitochondrial production. D-Ribose, a sugar found in most cells, is a component of ATP and RNA, increases ATP levels and improves energy levels. It has been shown to be helpful in treating chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure.Ubiquinol, a form of Coenzyme Q10, has been shown to decrease the clinical signs of aging. Interestingly it is often depleted in people taking statin drugs widely used to lower cholesterol. NADH/NAD+ are molecules essential to mitochondrial function and ATP production, and are very popular these days with athletes looking to optimize function and others interested in healthy aging. SFNM offers NAD+ IV therapy for people seeking to optimize mitochondrial function or as an adjunctive therapy in the management of chronic neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s Disease.

Urolitihin AFinally, SFNM is excited to be offering a first-to-market formula to support energy production, muscle function and healthy aging. It contains a compound called Urolitihin A (UA), along with resveratrol and ubiquinol. Studies have found UA to be effective in improving muscle function and mitochondrial efficiency in elderly subjects with four weeks’ use.

Maintain Optimal Health

Healthy cellular function provides the foundation for healthier lives. Improving cellular function and energy production is an essential component for restoring and maintaining optimal health and vitality. This can be in younger people who have been adversely affected by medications and toxins that impact mitochondrial function, for older people with chronic illnesses associated with mitochondrial dysfunction, and for those who want to age healthfully and have the best quality of life.

Use Aloe Vera To Transform Red Irritated Skin Into Soft Healthly Skin. If your skin is red and irritated, you’ll want to soothe it right away. Prolonged inflammation of your skin can cause your skin to break down collagen. Or, if you just want smooth, vibrant skin, you can also use this skin soother. Aloe Vera gel has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and healing properties, and it penetrates the skin easily to provide nourishment.

If you have an interest in managing a chronic condition effectively or optimizing healthy aging, I can help you design a focused plan that fits your specific needs.
